One of the highlights of last week’s trip to Napa was seeing my two friends, Jeff Smith and Bob Foley.  I am a big fan of Bob Foley’s wines from Pride and Switchback Ridge to Robert Foley Vineyards and of course, Hourglass.  I am happy to say, Jeff has just confirmed our allocation of his new 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from Hourglass.

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley

This offers a gorgeous, pure bouquet with black fruit and flowers almost jumping from the glass.  On the palate, this is focused, intense and concentrated with a solid core of ripe currant and blackberry fruit along with notes of toffee, graphite, toast, cedar, and rich, sweet tannins.  

This `05 Cabernet needs ample time in the decanter if you are looking for “immediate gratification”; this will drink better in 2-3 years and can cellar for one or two decades without a doubt.  .

Hourglass is a Robert Parker darling with a solid 93 points on this new release and 94-98 points on recent vintages (Robert Parker).
