Silver Oak Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Rich, concentrated, balanced and full of finesse.  The `03 Napa Cabernet is expressive with deep notes of blackberry-black plum fruit, dark chocolate, and baking spices with hints of pencil lead, black pepper and more. Solid core of fully ripened black fruit and ripe tannins that come together in a long finish.  78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.   Properly cellared, this will drink well for 10-15 more years.

Tierra Roja Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

David DeSante is the winemaker and he has let the red earth speak with this Oakville estate Cabernet.  Full-bodied, wonderfully balanced and focused with bright fruit tones of red and black cherry along with notes of dusty cocoa, baking spices, caramel and well-integrated vanilla-scented oak.   This Cabernet opened up beautifully showing deep complexity, supple tannins and good acidity with an emphasis of the terroir from the red soils of Oakville captured in the glass.  Less than 200 cases.

2005 Tor Kenwood Mast Cimarossa Cabernet Sauvignon 93RP  Tanya's A-List

Rich, dense, but not overly extracted, with succulent, juicy black currant - black raspberry fruit with notes of milk chocolate, a little caramel and oak spice, with sweet creamy tannins. This is plush in the mouth with a round, mouthcoating texture, excellent depth, good acidity, and a long, defined finish. I met Tor & winemaker Jeff Ames last year in Napa (2/07) and then tasted the `05s in August 2007.  Jeff is hands-on to detail, yet hands-off when it comes to too much intervention. Tor Kenwood was a long time executive at Beringer; his knowledge and experience has put him in the position to get great fruit and make superb, hand-crafted wines.

Powerful, rich layers of cassis, blackberry fruit, licorice, mocha, lush tannins, and a finish that goes on and on.  Great bottle for $20.
