I am back from a busy, yet fun birthday weekend in Napa with lots to talk about.  First, thank you for all of your birthday wishes.  As you already know, I celebrated my birthday over and over with some of my favorite friends in the valley.  Lots of great wine, terrific food, smiles, cheer, and rain.  One of the highlights was seeing Tor Kenwood and winemaker Jeff Ames to retaste the Mast Cimarossa Cab featured last week and the outstanding 96 point Beckstoffer Tokalon Cabernet.

Tor Kenwood Beckstoffer ToKalon 

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the blockbuster big brother to the Mast Cimarossa.  Powerful, rich and full of fabulous intense fruit, this is loaded with black currants, black cherries, minerals, spice box, and licorice.  Luscious with a mouthcoating texture, this shows an authoritative midpalate and a fullness on the finish.  This single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from one of the most sought after vineyards in Napa and it is everything you would expect!  Andy Becksoffer’s ToKalon Vineyard has pedigree, history and location, and produces some the best and highest scoring wines from Napa.  Outstanding.

Tor Kenwood Mast Cimarossa 

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

 This is one serious Cabernet for the money and it that deserves your attention.   Rich, dense, but not overly extracted, with succulent, juicy black currant - black raspberry fruit with notes of milk chocolate, a little caramel and oak spice, with sweet creamy tannins. This is plush in the mouth with a round, mouthcoating texture, excellent depth, good acidity, and a long, defined finish.  100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Mast Vineyard (60%) and Cimarossa (40%).  Robert Parker says Tor has hit a “home run” with his 2005 Cabernets with a well-deserved
